Acupuncture meridians

I may have given you the wrong impression on Friday. I may have made it look like EFT has no practical use at all. That is far from the truth.

My original exposure to EFT was as I was exploring topics close to Reiki to see how everything fit together. I came across EFT and wound up getting some free resources. Ironically, I got the free ebook from emofree.com after I got The Promise of Energy Psychology. What’s funny is that that book had been in my reading queue for a while, and I came to it the same time that I discovered EFT independently. In both cases, the claims they made were substantial, and I was eager to see how they held up.

EFT (or Energy Psychology) is based on the concept of meridians, or energy channels, throughout the body. By paying attention to the matter at hand, and tapping on certain key points in the body, you can clear those channels and thus remove the problem from your energy field. The example given is the difference between hunting for a singular problematic component in a sophisticated piece of electronics, or just giving the whole thing an overhaul in less time.

As I said, there are plenty of free resources at emofree.com or tapping.com, so I won’t bore you with details of execution. I will, however, share my results.

I’ve always had a few (sometimes many) “mental land mines”. These land mines would come and go, usually showing up when I’m getting a little to advanced, and making too much progress with something. Then, once they’d done their job and ground me down, they’d fade away until needed again. They would pop up with an embarrassing and/or painful moment out of my past as if to demonstrate my lack of skill/worthiness, etc. I knew that this would not do, so I had been looking into various ways of handling them. Reiki helped quite a bit, but I needed more (I was only Reiki level 1 at the time). I found a great resource in EFT.

This was actually fun, in a perverse, self-development-via-entrapment kind of way. I would deliberately push the envelope, trying to achieve more than ever before. The land mines would show up, and I would blow their (proverbial) heads off. Sometimes I’d only wing one, but usually it was stupid enough to come back for me to finish the job. Eventually, they got to be such an endangered species that hunting got scarce.

I don’t use EFT as much as I used to, but I do have it in my box of tools, and I’m glad it’s there. The usability for headaches alone is worth it to me, as I have verified that you can reduce (eliminate in some cases) the pain of a headache or other ailment using this technique. This may sound crazy to some, but I’m more interested in what’s going on in my mind than what’s going on in my body. I’m more apt to take ibuprofen for a headache than use such a technique. There is a disconnect there, and it is one of the things that I am exploring, but that’s a matter for another article.

Does EFT interest you? Do you have any experiences with it? If so, please share them in the comments!
