Happy New Year, everybody!
I had a serious failure today. I had a glitch which let some unwanted feelings run unchecked until I realized what had been going on. Thankfully, not too late to save the day, but it threatened to ruin some important time for me and my wife, Summer.
Those of you who are in the habit of reading this blog know that I’m all about internal monitoring. What went wrong, you ask? The answer is easy: A glitch.
The Post-Mortem.
Remember, no technology is perfect. I am in the habit of looking inside and checking my status, but this one slipped through – for a while. Some contributing factors were fatigue, low blood sugar, and a time-sensitive issue at hand.
I let irritation and a smidgen of self-pity slip past my notice. From there, they “snowballed” until it became too much to ignore. As anyone knows, it’s easier to put out a fire when it’s just a few embers than it is when it’s at full strength.
When I finally did realize what was going on, I took a few dedicated moments, and released it. Once it was gone, I was feeling much better (of course) and ready to see what caused the system to fail.
One thing that I check is to see how reliable/how long a technique has gone without failure. In this case, I haven’t had my emotions get away from me in quite some time. Hmm. Days….weeks…..months?! Months! That some stability!
Finding Success In Failure.
If I hadn’t had this wobble I wouldn’t have had the knowledge of just how effective my technique had been. Was this a failure? In the strict definition, yes. However, a moment of failure in months of unprecedented success….I’ll take it
One meme that I’ve been keeping in my head recently is “There is no success or failure. There are only results“.
So, when you see “failure” coming down all around you, remember that what makes it such an impact is that it is in contrast with the “success” you’ve been enjoying. Don’t get too absorbed in “failure” to pay attention to the results.
