Skiing

I’ve been puzzled recently by how well things have been going for me. It is one thing to expect positive change in the world, but having your expectations met can itself be rather unexpected :-)

Allow me to share a brief story:

When I was in my early teens I used to love to ski on Mt. Hood. Alpine skiing. I started out with classes and rental skis, and I worked my way up through the classes until I had passed the Intermediate class. I got my own pair of skis as a gift. These were good skis and were a perfect fit for me.

The first time I tried them out, however, I noticed that there was something wrong. My groove was off. My turns and other maneuvers were off. Before long I realized the problem: I wasn’t used to the good skis and the speed they provided. That was what threw me off.

That is the feeling that I found myself with recently. Things are going smoother than ever, and I’m really liking where I am and where I am going. I have worked past a lot of resistance to make it happen. But, the actual experience of it is… funny.

Of course I know what to do now, just as I did back then. If things are going faster, you have two options: Try to put a damper on (which is what I just got rid of to get here), or lean into it and produce still better results.

Have you ever dealt with a situation of anticipated-yet-unexpected success? Please share them in the comments!
