The time has come, once again, for some new glossary words. Here we go:
- Troubleshooting – To work with a system to find the source of the trouble. Once the source of the trouble is found, it is dealt with in a way that doesn’t produce additional problems. Most troubleshooting is done by “process of elimination.” Troubleshooting is a very useful skill to have: It sets up thehabit of looking at the problem from a broad perspective. It also gives you a handy mental “framework” for getting to the root of the matter.
- Rationalize – Simply, to make something rational. Quite often, this is used in our society to mean “to make an excuse”. However, while that can be considered rationalization, that is not what I use it for here. When I think of making something rational, I think: Finding a way to follow your inner promptings that is acceptable to your rational mind. Your inner promptings can go by any name. You can call it your heart, your intuition, your spirit guides or guardian angels. It all gets the same end result. Note that this is different from an excuse: You are not dodging why you are doing something, you are just finding a way to make it acceptable for your rational mind.
- Cultivate – The process of continually arranging the circumstances so that natural processes can work at maximum. I haven’t used this one much yet, but I have been using it in my day-to-day life and it’s been pretty good to me. I’ve been looking at the work I’ve done and the articles I’d written on the topic of inner resistance and I realized that I had left out some important elements. One of them is the concept of cultivation. We are all naturally moving forward and are motivated to accomplish certain things: Physical safety/comfort, Establish and maintain relationships, mental stimulation, and (usually) spiritual growth. Cultivation is the process of changing and adapting the circumstances and environment so that we reach these goals more efficiently. By removing or transforming resistance and setting up support, there is no need to “push” further. We get all the speed we need.
- Special Effect – A special effect is an event which adds a particular emphasis to what is going on at present. Much like special effects in the movies, special effects will enhance the “feel” of the moment. Imagine you are having a really emotional day. Any emotion will do. Now, imagine there’s that one event that takes it to a whole new level. That’s the special effect. One important thing to remember is that special effects support the story. Don’t lose sight of the story of you, and get lost in life’s eye-candy.
