A while back I wrote of how I cut soda out of my life. As it’s been three months, I figure that it’s time for an update.

The good.

I had been suffering from blood sugar problems for some time. Low blood sugar in particular. Removing soda (and the attendant sugar) from my system has normalized my blood sugar more than I would have thought possible. I haven’t had a blood sugar “crash” since. This is serious stuff, as it was something that I had had to be on guard for. Additionally, I find that my energy levels also are a bit more normalized.

Furthermore, my headache frequency has also declined sharply. I still get them once in a while, but nowhere near as often.

The bad.

I’m still packing a few extra pounds. It’s not as bad as it was, and my wife Summer assures me that my old clothes suit me much better, but I haven’t personally noticed a difference. This could very easily be the fact that being in the middle of things, I don’t see gradual change. Aside from this, the only “bad” thing might be that beverage selection isn’t quite as wide when I’m out on the town :-)

The bottom line.

I’ll have to call this one a success. I’ve seen substantial and lasting benefits from the move. I’ve taken the occasional sip of soda, but I can’t handle more than a sip before it’s like drinking syrup. As such, it’s self-sustaining. I’m still trying to decide on my next challenge, so if you have any suggestions, please feel free! Having seen and enjoyed the benefits of this, I’m eager to see what other trouble I can stir up.
