Each and every one of us has our desires. This can be a superficial want such as the latest-and-greatest doodad, but it can also be something deeper. Something that our soul wants. The deeper it goes, it seems the more fear there is associated with actually going after it. This is normal, because we have the built-in fear of failure. We also have as a product of that a fear of success. As the classic saying says:

Be careful what you ask for; You just might get it.

As such, when you are accelerating your life, the level of fear tends to keep pace. Dealing with inner resistance is part of the journey. Fear is a part of that. One might go so far as to say that fear is at the heart of that. In the face of such fear, we all falter from time to time, but many will let it rule them and never take the steps that their spirit yearns for.

The problem.

The problem with giving in to the fear is that it is a betrayal. It starts with yourself. Caving betrays yourself because you’ll never be as fulfilled or happy as you would be if you had truly lived the life you were given. Beyond that, it’s a betrayal of your mission or purpose in your life, which in turn means a betrayal of your loved ones and the world at large. You are a vibrant being, and a reflection of the Divine, by whatever name. To not truly live the life you were given is to turn your back on yourself, your loved ones, the world and the Divine. Just like George Bailey, your life touches many others, and those lives touch still others. We all need you, so don’t let the fear take you.

A few thoughts to consider.

If what’s at stake doesn’t give you enough fire to make it happen, if you’re feeling like there’s too much to deal with, or if you feel like you shouldn’t be afraid in the first place, allow me to present some words of wisdom:

Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear.
-Mark Twain
Courage is the complement of fear. A man who is fearless cannot be courageous. (He is also a fool.)
-Lazarus Long, Time Enough For Love (Robert A. Heinlein)

Only when we are no longer afraid do we begin to live.
-Dorothy Thompson

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.
-Elanor Roosevelt

Be not afraid of life. Believe that life is worth living, and your belief will help create the fact.
-Henry James
