All of us have dreams. What we dream of differs but that does not change the fact that each of us has something that we strive for.
In our society, particularly in America, we are taught to have eyes only for our dreams and that not only do we need to do it on our own, but that other people are obstacles to be cleared out of the way. “Look out for number one” and so on.
The problem with that is the simple fact that nobody of any great accomplishment that you can think of went it entirely alone. In order to achieve your dreams, you need other people.
The question.
Given this environment, many are willing to trample others to get what they want. Robbery, theft, embezzlement, even murder are extreme examples of this. While many people will crush the dreams of others, I want to ask you: Will you make another’s dreams come true as part of your strategy instead?
Think about it: The very nature of most dreams require a cooperative element. Most people will only give others what they have to in order to achieve their goals (example: minimum wage). Instead imagine if you set out to achieve your dream and you shifted your fundamental strategy such that your method of success is to help other people get what they truly desire. If you can do that, you will have people lining up to help you, and they will give you far more than you would have gotten by only cooperating to the absolute minimum level.
Cooperation is the survival trait to have this season.
More and more people are interacting with one another. Not just online, either. “Service” industries are only getting bigger right now because there are more and more people. As such, being unable to cooperate will start to become a serious liability, while those able to coordinate with others and act in harmony will have a much greater edge because they will be able to get things done.
Back to basics.
None of this is really new, of course. This pattern has been in existence since time began. One of the basics of business is “The more people you serve, the more money you make.” It is those that have learned this lesson that have been able to move forward. Working for the betterment of all is not just some wishy-washy lotus-eating fantasy. It is the way to get where you want to go. Try making someone’s dreams come true and see what happens.
