When you first start living in harmony with your inner self, it can be difficult to trust yourself. Ironically, after people remove the garbage from their mind and clean it up, they are still untrusting of their autopilot. Acting in accordance with your purpose, opening yourself up to more of the world than was there in your old comfort zone, all of that can be difficult. Sometimes it can feel like you are stumbling around in the dark and lost.

Use your starlight vision

Starhawk wrote in The Spiral Dance that there are two basic modes: What is normal for people these days, where you shine a spotlight at one area and use that to find your way, and then there is what she calls “starlight vision”, where you turn the spotlight off and allow yourself to see more around you without having the bright spotlight to give you every last detail. Both are vital, but many of us are missing the starlight vision component.

Try experimenting with listening to your inner self and follow your purpose. I know it’s scary, but you can try “testing the water” by limiting the scope. Pick something that won’t be catastrophic if you follow your autopilot, and then do it. By choosing to honor your promptings, you thereby make them stronger. If your tech includes working with guides, such as angels, totems, muses, or such then by honoring their input, and listening to what they tell you, their help will become all the stronger.

Do the first right thing, then do the next

In Ask and It Is Given, a scenario is given: Imagine you are trying to go from city A to city B on foot. You are not sure how to get there exactly, but you know that you want to get there. The trick to getting there is to make sure that every move you make takes you towards city B. How can you tell this? By monitoring your internal state. If you start feeling frustration, anger, disappointment, or fear then it’s time to re-evaluate your steps. If, on the other hand, you are feeling great, then keep going.

Take one step, and then another. In time, you’ll have made it a habit, so you automatically move towards that which serves your purpose and gives you fulfillment. In the meantime, take your baby steps. Start learning to trust yourself again. Do the first right thing. Then, do the next one. Keep building and learning as you go. There’s no-one to determine success or failure but you, and as long as you haven’t given up, how can you lose?

Watch for when it “clicks”

When you start living this way, often you will find yourself at the right place at the right time for something. Or you’ll need something or someone and the needed resource almost literally lands in your lap. This is commonly referred to as synchronicity. It can be a little creepy at first, simply because while we are taught that it is better to give than to receive, we are not taught how to graciously accept. If something lands in your lap and it feels right, then go with it. If it doesn’t feel right, then don’t. Remember, though, the famous adage: Be careful what you ask for; you might get it”. When you decide to start upgrading your inner techs you may easily find that your life starts moving in unexpected directions. Learn to trust yourself. Learn to trust your autopilot, and you will be able to ride the changes like a surfer at the beach.
