Bandwidth is, simply, the amount of data you can send out and receive. The greater the bandwidth, the more flexibility you have in operating. Ask anyone who is used to downloading applications and streaming media on a broadband connection if they feel limited on dialup. The same can be said for us. The more control over the speed and quality of your information, the better. With control comes the ability to ward off information overload, which is becoming an increasingly large problem. With more information coming in, you will get a better sense of yourself and a better sense of the world around you.

Getting in touch with your non-conscious mind

While getting in touch with your inner mind can and has taken up countless books, we’re going to start off with a few applications. We’re going to be focusing on getting started with intuition, then go on to practice a technique that I put together for helping your body heal. Lastly in the realm of the inner mind we will be working on setting up mental protection. Remember what I said in my earlier post: Theory is not what is really important here. There are many theories as to why and how these work. For our purposes, the theories aren’t that important. Use what theory works for you. And again: If you aren’t sure that they will work, try them out anyway and see what happens. There’s nothing like getting a pleasant surprise :)

You have probably heard of a pendulum. It’s a rather simple thing, merely a weight on a string, rope, or chain. If you have a necklace with a pendant, that will probably do. Tying a shoestring to a leftover nut in the garage will work also. Once you have your pendulum, let it dangle. Rest your elbow on something and hold the string between your index finger, middle finger, and thumb. State to yourself that you are trying to contact your inner mind to communicate. The pendulum can swing different ways, and each can be assigned a meaning. The basic ways a pendulum can swing are in a line forwards and backwards, in a line left and right, in a circle clockwise, and in a circle counterclockwise. There are a few ways to do this, but I’m going to suggest doing the following:

  • Decide what you want “yes” “no” and “I don’t know” to look like
  • Swing the pendulum the “yes” way deliberately. State to yourself that this means Yes.
  • Swing the pendulum the “no” way deliberately. State to yourself that this means No.
  • Swing the pendulum the “I don’t know” way deliberately. State to yourself that this means I don’t know.

Now that this is done, you can try calibrating it by asking it questions to which you already know the answers. If you get an erroneous response, gently state that the answer looks like this. Then swing the pendulum the proper way. Eventually, you will want to start asking some real questions. The sky is the limit here. If your worldview accepts the possibility of getting nonphysical guidance (from angels, deceased relatives, spirits, etc.) then ask your inner mind to contact them for answers it doesn’t know. Real important here is not to beat yourself up. You have to keep an open and nurturing environment for this to work. Eventually, working with the pendulum enough, you can get to the point where you don’t even need it anymore. You ask, and get an answer.

On the series “Stargate: SG-1″ there is a human character that has an alien symbiont. Whenever this character gets sick or injured, he performs “kel’no’reem”, a meditation that puts him in contact with the symbiont. The symbiont receives information that is used to heal the host, and as a result the host is healed. I saw this and decided to try using this symbolism to work with my inner mind when I got sick. My results were encouraging. Here is the basic run-through:

  • Find some quiet time and sit or lay down
  • Make your connection to your inner mind. The more you connect with your inner mind, the better and easier it gets. If you haven’t done much, just state to yourself that you are connecting to your inner mind.
  • Once the connection is made, affirm that your purpose in connecting is to help your body heal and ask your inner mind to help you.
  • Let your mind spread over your body, taking in the areas that are giving you problems. Your strongest inner sense will show you what you need to detect.
  • As this happens, your regular, waking mind will tend to slow down or seem drowsy. If this happens to you, don’t worry, it’s a good thing
  • Now that you have this increased perspective on your body, imagine that you are re-routing any available energy to healing that area. In most sci-fi shows they will talk about re-routing power to some essential system. We are doing the same here.
  • If you feel that you are short on energy, then try pulling it in from the environment around you. Imagine that the air you breathe is filled with sparkling energy. When you pull it into your lungs, send it to work.
  • If you have any meditative techniques for pulling in energy, use them to your greatest advantage.
  • Stay in this state for as long as feels right. It may be a few minutes or hours, and it may be different each time. Use what’s right for you.
  • Use this whenever you feel like you should. Paying attention to what your inner mind is telling you, your intuition will help you get healthy and stay healthy.

If you find yourself in an environment where you find yourself mentally/emotionally overwhelmed, then you might try putting up a shield. I’ll go into this topic more later, but for now let me set a scene for you:

You’re in a crowded, noisy, space with a lot of emotions around you. You are starting to feel overcome, or like you are drowning in them. You may even feel a headache coming on. Here is what I suggest:

  • Get outside if you can. The rest of this will be easier if you can clear your mind a little.
  • Think about what is most vivid when you imagine something. Vision? Sound? Touch?
  • Take a couple deep breaths (like in the Kel’no’reem section above) and fill your body with energy
  • Using your strongest inner sense, blow that energy out and form it into either a sphere or a suit of armor around you.
  • Imagine that this shield is smart and will accept commands
  • Command the shield to block or reflect negative or discordant energy, only letting through that which will benefit you.
  • Once that is done, use your strongest sense to finalize the shield. For auditory people, you might produce a clap of thunder. For tactile people feel the shield solidify around you. For visual people, see the shield give off a flash, and then look much more solid
  • Let the image disappear from your mind and return to the busy area. You will notice that you are much better able to handle it.
  • If you feel that you need the shield, just close your eyes for a second, and use your strongest inner sense to sense it around you. Maybe do more energy breathing to strengthen it.

Each of these techs has helped me immensely. They do take practice to use effectively, but as you practice not only does it become easier, but they tend to become more effective. As I said earlier, I will go into shielding more later. It is important because as you become more sensitive to the world around you, you need a method for dealing with it.

Getting Outside Data

As you read this, you already know that one of the best ways of acquiring new data is to keep reading. One thing that will help is to not let yourself get bored with your reading material. Find what truly interests you and have at it. One thing that I’ve mentioned earlier is PhotoReading. This has many benefits, only some of which are obvious. It is wonderful being able to run through written material several times faster with better comprehension, but it also helped develop the connection between my normal, waking mind and my inner mind. The other benefits of PhotoReading are that I can pick up a big, dry, tome on a topic that doesn’t really interest me but has information that I want or need, and be undaunted by it. I can use this skill to open up new vistas of topics that I had no chance or inclination of researching. The more information we can actually process, the more tools we have in our mental toolbox. Another great resource is to get with people who are involved with whatever it is that interests you. People can be a much-overlooked resource these days. With the proliferation of printed text, actually having a dialog with an expert on the subject can be much more effective and rewarding. Check out online groups in what interests you and see if there is a local group. Preferably one that actually meets. The exchange of information at such a meeting can really move you forward. Two group types that I’ve heard recommended over and over are Toastmasters and book clubs.

I’ve covered methods for increasing the flow of data, but not much for control, and how to avoid overload. One important thing to remember is never to try swallowing the ocean. In any topic in existence, there is more than one person can ever know. Your goal is to learn what you want and/or need to know. Don’t even try to learn everything because you will self-destruct your learning process by trying. Try to keep your mind open. Even when you start to get some information, try to keep your mind in the state of the newcomer, because then you will be able to absorb new information much better, especially if it involves a major departure from what you have already learned. Remember, that your thoughts create your reality. If you keep saying to yourself that you are never going to get it, then you’re probably right. Usually doesn’t feel good, either. Instead, when you feel confusion, remember that this is actually a good thing. Confusion means that you need more information, and with more information, your mastery of the topic will increase. Use confusion as a launching pad to get more versed in the topic. When you do make a breakthrough, be sure you take time to savor the feeling of this victory. By reinforcing the feelings of accomplishment, you set yourself up for even better successes to come.
